Born in the Richmond District, Steve Aveson is a 3rd generation San Franciscan. His grandfather lived through the 1906 earthquake and went on to become a construction engineer on the Golden Gate Bridge, while his mother was raised in the boarding school at Notre Dame de Victoires near Chinatown.

“Steve brings with him a solid journalistic background and a deep connection to the Bay Area, “said Ashley Gold Messina, KRON4’s Vice President and General Manager.

A graduate of St. Ignatius College Prep in the Sunset district, Steve went to the University of California at Santa Barbara before taking a year to travel with the Circus. He graduated from Wheelock College in Boston, where he began his career in journalism. Between those two enterprises he has managed to tell stories in all 50 States.

Anchoring Live and Breaking news has been a focus of his work over the years. From the Olympic bombing in Atlanta, to tragedies at Columbine and Oklahoma City, Steve has been both witness and first voice for many historic events.

While anchoring the ABC Emmy award winning Discovery News science program, Steve shared first live images from Mars on July 4th 1997, and later, he anchored live coverage of John Glenn’s historic return to space in the shuttle program.

Also with ABC News, he covered the Winter Olympics in Nagano, Japan, and was a featured storyteller in ABC’s worldwide Millennial coverage in addition to many other important stories for Good Morning America and 20/20.
